The Story Behind The Box
The Big Brain Box was created in a hospital waiting room.
I was sitting at Johns Hopkins, exhausted, overwhelmed, and trying to hold everything together. At the same time, I was facing another battle. The local public school system had failed my child. They would not follow their own obligations to provide the educational support my child was entitled to while they were in a hospital homebound program.
I remember sitting there, scared that my child was being left behind because of circumstances completely out of their control.
To pass the time, I pulled out a small LEGO set, the very one now included in our first box.
And something shifted.
I started creating lessons right there, not as a teacher, but as a mother who refused to let her children fall through the cracks. I worried constantly that I was not doing enough and that I might fail them.
But what I came to realize in that moment was this.
I was not failing them.
The system was.
And if the system could not show up for my children, I would.
That is when the idea came to me.
What if there was a simple, grab and go box.
Something you could take anywhere, even a hospital waiting room.
Something that combined hands on building with meaningful learning.
Something that made learning accessible, engaging, and empowering no matter the circumstances.
I did not just create this for my children.
I created it for other parents who need something educational, complete, and ready to go in the moments that matter most.
Right there, in that waiting room, The Big Brain STEM Box was born.
Today, The Big Brain STEM Box is more than just a product. It is a tool for resilience. It is a way to spark curiosity in the middle of uncertainty. It is a reminder that learning does not have to be linear nor does not have to stop, even on the hardest days.
Because every child deserves the chance to think, create, and grow, no matter where they are.
